How can we build power across diverse London-based Eastern European communities? With Polish-born socially engaged artist Anka Dabrowska

Pride as an Act of Protest is a playful placard-making workshop that explores how we can build power across diverse London-based Eastern European communities. Join Polish-born socially engaged artist Anka Dabrowska (she/her) and guests to creatively explore what Pride stands for. What might it look like beyond the current realms of commercialisation?

The workshop is part of the What Was Us, What Is Us project by POMOC developed in collaboration with artists and campaigners who drive social and political change in the UK.

Pride as an Act of Protest invites Sara Luxmoore (she/her) from Queers For Palestine and Malwina Bak (they/them) from Trans+ Pride London and Dalston Superstore to draw connections between queer-feminist liberation, migrants rights, and struggles such as anti-colonialism, antiracism, and the exploitation of environment and people by corporate interests. Together, we will map our collective ideas, desires and resources to build alternative and joyful futures as Eastern European communities.

About the What Was Us, What Is Us project

As US activist Toni Cade Bambara said in an interview, “the role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible”.

At Calthorpe Community Garden in London, leading artists will join local and national campaigners to explore how structural and systemic oppression can be challenged. Throughout a 12-month process, we will explore topics ranging from food justice, queer and trans liberation, housing justice, antiracism, climate justice and migrants rights, while simultaneously crafting the world of solidarity.
